Article: Central Park News

Our CEO, Paul Robinson is involved in the Central Park Business Association. He has written an article on Urban Development and how our company can assist you with your geotechnical project needs.

“As we experience an increase in urban development across West Auckland and the wider region, the opportunity for people now to subdivide or buy a section and build, is increasing at a dramatic rate. Given the Auckland Unitary Plan is opening up swathes of Auckland for development or rezoning, the focus on building has never been higher. When deciding if subdividing or building a new house (or commercial premises for that matter) is right for you, it’s very easy to forget about some important details…”

Soil & Rock Consultants – Quarry Conference

On the 13th – 15th July, we attended our very first Quarry Conference, which was hosted in Blenheim this year.

Through 2015 we’ve been working with Worksafe to produce a Geotechnical Report for Quarry Managers to satisfy the new Worksafe guidelines for safe quarry operation. The report was very well received by everyone we spoke to at the conference and it was fantastic to meet so many people who are passionate about their industry.

Given it was our first year attending, it’s always hard to gauge what to expect. Overall the conference was excellent in networking with suppliers to the industry and also hearing from industry professinals from around the country.

To be in a position to provide the industry with professional guideance for a safe working environment is something we’re very excited about here at Soil & Rock Consultants. We’ll definitely be attending next year’s conference in Auckland

NZIA Auckland Architecture Awards

Another great article spotted – Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged back in 2012 to complete the Stormwater Disposal study on this project. It proved a great lesson for one of our then Graduate Engineers. Now, the house has won an NZIA Auckland Architecture Award – No guesses as to why, it’s a beautiful house!

Soil & Rock Mountain Bikers

Our team is an active bunch with a team culture who like to roll our sleeves up and get the job done. This also stems outside of work with many of our team members enjoying active outdoor pursuits. Whether that is getting out on the water, getting down with nature or getting involved in outdoor activities. Here from left we have Alex, Chris, Tim and Zeph enjoying a day of mountain biking at Woodhill Forrest.

2016 NZ Enduro Nationals

Recently, 2 of our team members participated in the 2016 NZ Enduro Nationals. Here’s what Jared had to say about his motor-cross riding experience:

“I would like to thank all directors, shareholders and upper management of Soil and Rock for the sponsorship given to myself and Carl Steadman by way of the work ute and  supplemented fuel,  to travel to the 2016 NZ National Enduro rounds in Christchurch and Mosgiel.

After the five round national series, I was lucky enough to realise a childhood dream of mine by standing on a National Championship podium for the first time and Carl who found himself sitting comfortably inside to top ten of the Pro class.

This dream of mine would have never been realised if it weren’t for the support of Soil and Rock.

My goal now is to win the number one trophy in 2017 with the support of the Soil and Rock Family.

Once again, Thank you all”

Good work Jared!

Junior World Gliding Championships

Alex McCaw competed in the Junior World Gliding Championships in December 2015, held in a place called Narromine, which is approx. 5hrs drive inland from Sydney. Narromine is a small farming town located in the featureless New South Wales Plains, it has a very hot and dry climate; great conditions for gliding. The competition was for pilots under the age of 25 from around the world. There were 60 pilots competing in two classes. Alex and a friend were the only competitors from New Zealand. Gliding is very popular in Europe with many of the attending pilots being semi-professional. The first week held great weather allowing the pilots to fly at really high speeds, often in excess of 250Kph. This put Alex in 3rd place after 7 days flying. Unfortunately due to a change in the weather there was a considerable change in scores. At the end of the competition Alex placed 12th, he really enjoyed this great experience and overall, he was happy with how he performed.

Alex has had support and help from a lot of people along with sponsorship from Soil & Rock Consultants to get him to the Junior World Gliding Championships. Soil & Rock Consultants really encourage and support our staff with sporting endeavours and success outside of the workplace.

Dave Convery who co-founded the company in 1987 is retiring after 27 years of service. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dave for the 27 years of geotechnical advice and management he has rendered with the company. The company is very appreciative of his loyal service and the growth of the company is largely due to his dedication, sincerity and efforts.
