The following are examples of public works in which Soil and Rock Consultants have provided geotechnical input;

Freyburg Square Redevelopment, Auckland CBD
Overview:
A very challenging project in the city centre. The site was heavily congested with live services of all types and the subgrade varied from stiff natural soils to highly variable non-engineered fill of several metres depth. Close inspection of the foundation subgrades and constant liaison with the Project Managers and Contractor were required.

NZTA Projects
Location:
State Highway 1 – Brynderwyn Hills, Northland
State Highway 1 – Springfield to Mata, Northland
Akerama Bends Realignment, Northland
Overview:
Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged to provide consulting services for the proposed safe systems projects at various locations. The purpose of our investigations were to assess subsoil conditions and provide recommendations with regard to earthworks, stability of earth-fill batters, the performance of existing ground as an embankment subgrade and the suitability of natural ground for bridge foundations.

Vector NZ Projects
Location:
Whau River, Saunders Reserve, Avondale & Hepburn Road Substations, Auckland
Overview:
Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged to provide consulting services for consent applications to Auckland Council. The purpose of the investigation was to assess soil conditions along the proposed cable alignment and provide an assessment of the potential future instability of the Saunders Reserve cliff face.

Glen Esk Stream
Location:
Glen Esk Stream, Piha – Bank Stability Analysis.
Overview:
Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged by Auckland Council to assess the stability of the banks and provide an appropriate hydrogeological model of the site to assess runoff, flooding and potential scouring of the proposed re-contoured slopes and gullies. The assessment involved a desktop study encompassing available data analysis and walkover inspections of the terrain.

Watercare Services Ltd
Location:
40 Acre Slip – Stages 1-6
Overview:
Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged to undertake an engineering geological investigation of an area of land in the Waitakere Ranges known as the “40 Acre Slip”. Due to project size and to enable easier planning and execution of work we completed the project in five phases;
Stage One: Desktop study and Geological Mapping
Stage Two: Intrusive Field Investigation
Stage Three: Interpretation and Assessment
Stage Four: Reporting
Stage Five: Ongoing Monitoring

Cook Islands
Location:
Avatiu Valley, Cook Islands, Power Generation Platform
Overview:
Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged to undertake a Preliminary Geotechnical Appraisal at the site of the proposed power generation platform in the Cook Islands. The scope involved engineering geological mapping of the investigation area, drilling of two machine boreholes, excavation of five test pits and groundwater measurements. The principal objectives of our appraisal were to develop a geological model of the site so that further interpretive geotechnical analysis can be made with regard to land stability, earthworks, foundation design, and identification of any geotechnical constraints.

Christchurch Boys High School Grandstand
Location:
Christchurch Boys High School, Christchurch
Overview:
Soil & Rock Consultants were engaged to undertake a geotechnical site investigation for the proposed development of a grandstand on the Christchurch Boys High School’s rugby field.
